VAULT - Volunteer Advocates United for Leadership Training

Skagit VAULT:
Investing in Leaders, Propelling them to Action

Skagit Leaders in ActionWe currently have 12 leadership participants, 5 who are self-advocates. These leaders are passionate about empowering people with disabilities to have more choice and live quality lives within their homes and communities. The training module is actively engaging the leaders in hands-on training activities during 7 weekend workshops, culminating in individual and/or group projects. Participants are working on projects that will continue to build their leadership capacity and that will directly benefit people with developmental disabilities in our county and area.

Leadership qualities are learned, and it is the aim of Skagit VAULT to foster this kind of learning. While leadership competencies have many applications in work and in life, the focus of this program is voluntary leadership in the developmental disabilities community. Voluntary engagement and contribution are clearly the soul and substance of national charities and of civic society. No matter how volunteers contribute, they require and use leadership skills.

A brief description of Skagit VAULT.   This is an innovative volunteer leadership development program, which encompasses:

  • an excellent personal and professional development experience for selected volunteers from Skagit County

  • the design and implementation of projects that are building volunteer capacity in Skagit County committees, organizations, and government-related councils assisting individuals with developmental disabilities and their families

  • a mutual support network that is providing program alumni with a learning community

Participants in Skagit VAULT classes are becoming more knowledgeable and effective in:

  • Civil rights movement/history

  • Government systems

  • Community and local government systems

  • Skill building: building relationships, achieving results, thinking strategically, building and motivating volunteer teams, communicating, developing and sustaining organizations

  • Self-determination training

  • Systems Advocacy

This program is supporting the pursuit of challenges our leaders feel most passionate about and increasing their motivation and commitment to personal and professional excellence.

If you are not a VAULT leader but would like to attend one of our workshops, we would love to have you join us. Please contact Joy in advance so we can plan accordingly.
